The Student Council’s main achievement this year was organising the “Dalkey’s got Talent” show. There were numerous heats with Student Council members judging all entries, selecting those who went through to the final. All proceeds went to SVP.
The Student Council discussed issues and improvements brought up by students vis à vis the school, e.g. enforcing the one-way system along certain corridors, etc.
The Student Council reviewed the crisis management code in case of a sudden bereavement or accident in the school community.
The Student Council was shown a copy of the school’s Code of Behaviour and some slight changes were made to it. All members were then shown the finished code with all amendments agreed upon.
The Student Council was involved in the update of the school uniform. Design suggestions were submitted through Student Council members and there was a lot of negotiation. A new school jacket, tracksuit, hockey uniform and gear bag are among the items to be introduced in September 2008.
The Student Council set up a new, larger notice board which includes a suggestion box, minutes from all meetings and any photos of current Student Council events.
The Student Council organised a survey completed by all students in the school to see what they expect from their Student Council. All results were recorded and taken into account.
Two representatives from the Student Council attended the Student Council seminar. They met many Student Councils from other counties all over the country and came back with many suggestions for improvements and also ideas for the future of the Student Council.
The Student Council featured in the Loreto Dalkey newsletter with an article mentioning all members and also the current projects being carried out. The Student Council will also feature in this year’s annual.
