Transition Year

Loreto Abbey Dalkey introduced the Transition Year in 1986. In accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Education and Science the programme aims to promote the personal, social, educational and vocational development of pupils. It prepares them for their roles as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society.

Transition Year is offered as an option to students, following the Junior Certificate. The programme encourages participants to acquire a better knowledge of themselves and of the society in which they live and to grow in maturity. Core subjects continue to be studied formally, but these are supplemented by a variety of enriching new subjects and new experiences.
