W.B. Yeats' Guided Exhibition Tour

On Monday, 8th March, our Fifth Year students attended an online guided tour of the W.B. Yeats' exhibition at the National Library of Ireland. Students learned about Yeats' personal life and examined original manuscripts of his poetry. Students deepened their knowledge of Yeats' involvement in the Cultural Revival, his interest in the occult and his personal connections to Maud Gonne, John McBride and Lady Gregory. Students enjoyed the tour and found it helpful in gaining a new appreciation of his works.

Seamus Heaney Workshops
In conjunction with the 'Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again' exhibition, Third Year students participated in online workshops with the National Library of Ireland. Students explored the life and creative process of Seamus Heaney and were shown original drafts of his poetry as part of the workshop experience.

Helen Corcoran Talk
As part of the Dublin Book Festival, Fifth Year students attended an exclusive Zoom talk with Irish author Helen Corcoran. Ms. Corcoran spoke to the students about the importance of resilience and determination in following one's dreams. Students also had the opportunity to ask Helen about her latest novel 'Queen of Coin and Whispers' and her writing methodologies.
Fighting Words Creative Writing Workshops
Presently, our Transition Year students are being tutored by Fighting Words in the art of creative writing and storytelling. These interactive workshops are a source of great enjoyment and inspiration for our students. Each Transition Year class will have an opportunity to attend a workshop this academic year.
Readathon 2020
Loreto Abbey Dalkey participated in MS Readathon 2020 and raised 308 euro.
Funds raised from the Readathon helped fund vital support services for people living with MS and their families. Congratulations to all students who got involved.
Library Workshops
Students from First- Fifth Year have been enjoying Enrichment Workshops in the library with Ms. Wade each Monday. Students have been experimenting with blackout poetry, examining the nuances of drama and diving into notable works of literature.

In-class Book Clubs
Book clubs are running in all English classes from First- Fifth Year every six weeks. Students discuss novels and non-fiction texts and share recommendations with each other. Students are encouraged to select books from our updated Reading Lists and visit the library for additional reading inspiration.
