Green Schools

Green Schools

As a Green School, our strategic plan aims to raise awareness of the environment, encourage recycling, composting and reducing waste. Any student who is interested in helping make our school a greener one is welcome to attend. The Green Schools Group meet as advertised on the intercom.

The school has already been awarded 2 Green School Flags; the Litter & Waste Flag and also the Energy Flag. Last year the GreenSchools Commitee succeeded in earning the 3rd Flag, the Water Flag, and we are currently aiming for the Travel flag. We have conducted a survey regarding how the students in our school travel. We noticed that the majority of students use public transport. However, there is still room for improvement as many of us still get a lift to school. As The GreenSchools Committee, it is our aim to get more people travelling to school in sustainable ways. We are currently working in cooperation with Alison, a member of the Environmental Education Unit on improving the walking route to our school. We are also planning to introduce Walk on Wednesdays and offer incentives to people who travel green. Another exciting incitive that we are implementing is the phasing out of all single use plastic in Loreto Dalkey. We aim to be a single use plastic free school by the end of 2020. If you're interested in improving our schools environmental impact and making a difference, GreenSchools would love to have you on our team. Remember our motto is Travel Green, Travel Clean.
